Air Products has invested over USD 17,5 million to establish its first clean liquid carbon dioxide (LCO₂) production facility in the Republic of Uzbekistan, located at the Navoiazot chemical complex.

As Uzbekistan’s first international-standard liquid CO₂ production facility, it utilizes raw CO₂ captured from the ammonia line production at Navoiazot, refining it to a purity level of 99,99%. This process significantly minimizes harmful emissions released into the atmosphere. The new CO₂ production facility will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with an estimated avoidance of nearly one million tonnes over the project lifecycle.

With a daily production capacity of 120 tonnes, this facility is the largest and most sustainable source of food-grade LCO₂ in the country. It helps address supply disruptions during peak seasons and ensures a reliable, consistent source of CO₂.

The CO₂ produced at the Air Products plant will replace the CO₂ traditionally sourced from natural gas combustion in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Applications of Liquid CO₂

We capture CO₂ emitted from ammonia production and transform it into a useful, purified gas. This prevents atmospheric emissions and gives CO₂ second life across various industries.

Carbonation of Beverages

Food-grade CO, which adheres to strict purity and safety standards, is utilized to carbonate a variety of beverages. This process imparts fizz and freshness while preserving the original taste of the drink. 

Cryogenic Cooling and Food Freezing

Compared to standard freezing methods, cryogenic freezing better preserves texture, moisture, and color, enhancing product quality and increasing its market value. 

Agricultural Yield Enhancement

CO₂ enrichment in greenhouses accelerates photosynthesis, reducing crop growth cycles by 2–3 weeks and increasing plant growth by up to 30%. It also improves plant quality and resistance to pests and diseases. 

Pest Control

CO₂ serves as an environmentally friendly alternative to toxic fumigants, ensuring safe and sustainable pest management across various species and developmental stages, without leaving toxic residues. 

 

Food Packaging and Inerting
